Park District of Highland Park History

The Park District is a separate municipal agency governed by five elected commissioners. We've come a long way from our humble beginnings in 1909 when we handled overseeing a 2-1/2 square mile parcel of land. Today, the Park District currently owns and maintains 650 acres of land consisting of over 40 park areas, a swimming beach, an 18-hole golf course, a 97-acre nature preserve and numerous facilities.
