Lakefront Planning
Lakefront Planning: Taking the Next StepPlanning for the revitalization of Highland Park’s public lakefront will be taking a big step forward over the next several months. In 2006 the District embarked on a mission to revitalize the lakefront. A Lakefront Planning Commission was convened to guide development of Highland Park’s four lakefront parks. During an intensive and inclusive process with public involvement and input, award winning waterfront planners JJR, LLC generated a lakefront master plan that embodies the vision of the community. Click this link for an overview of the process.
The District has further retained JJR to take the next step toward making this vision a reality. Over the coming 6 to 8 months JJR will develop schematic plans for Central and Rosewood Parks. Particulars will be developed for the general concepts presented in the master plan. Details such as environmental improvements, boating and harbor facilities at Central Park, a new beach house at Rosewood, fishing piers and plazas, access and parking, and many other components that will give Highland Park a first class lakefront will be worked out.
Public input and support will continue to be a crucial component of this process. If you would like to provide comments, ideas or suggestions about the project use the attached comment form. Be sure to watch this web site to keep informed and send an email to lakefront@pdhp.org to be placed on an email distribution list for periodic notices and updates.
