Chicago River Day

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill., April 30, 2007— Saturday, May 12 is the 15th annual Chicago River Day. Chicago River Day is hosted by the Friends of the Chicago River and the Park District of Highland Park is one of 60 sites where volunteers will clean up trash, pull invasive weeds and cut buckthorn to help make the river and its environs healthier. The Park District will meet at 9:00 a.m. at Danny Cunniff Park, near the footbridge (3100 Trail Way, End of Trail Way north of Half Day Road). The Park District and volunteers will be cleaning up the Skokie River which is the east fork of the north branch of the Chicago River. The Park District of Highland Park, founded in 1909, operates and manages over 600 acres of land in 44 park areas, and offers approximately 2,800 recreation and seasonal programs.  Facilities include an indoor ice arena, indoor tennis and racquetball complex, two recreation centers, a nature center, an 18-hole golf course, driving range, adventure golf, aquapark, beaches, boat launch ramp and yacht club on Lake Michigan.
