HIGHLAND PARK, Ill., June 18, 2008— Thanks to the generosity of the family and friends of Brian P. Schwartz, the Park District of Highland Park will begin breaking ground this July at Sunset Woods Park (located at 1801 Sunset Road between Central Avenue and Park Avenue West) to convert the first ball field into the Brian P. Schwartz Memorial Ball Field. This field will not only serve as an aesthetic and recreational asset to the park’s patrons, but will additionally preserve the memory of Brian P. Schwartz, who was an active community member and a long-time user of Sunset Woods Park.

Plans for the field will be in keeping with existing park architecture and include additional shade trees and landscaping, player dugouts with a stone surround that will enhance the existing field house and park stonework, graded grass seating for lawn chair use along the first base line, and a beautiful masonry seating circle with a low-profile seating wall, all of which will provide a more festive and social environment reflecting the life of Mr. Schwartz.

Questions regarding the Brian P. Schwartz Memorial Ball Field can be directed to Ted Baker, Superintendent of Parks, at 847.681.2189.
