Qualifications:

Ages 12 and up welcome. Ages 8 and up welcome with a parent/guardian. Work is mostly outdoors and may require lifting and ability to work with hand garden-type tools. Groups are welcome.

Springtime activities include planting trees and shrubs; pulling garlic mustard; monitoring for birds

All Volunteer Workdays are at Heller Nature Center, 2821 Ridge Road, unless otherwise noted (Location subject to change, please call 847.681.2189 to confirm):

 

Saturday, May 30, 9:00 a.m.- Noon/ Garlic Mustard pull @ Sunset Woods

 

Friday, June 12, 9 a.m. - Noon

Duties: Natural Areas restoration including cutting invasive brush such as buckthorn, collecting seeds of native plants, participating in prescribed burns in prairie and woodland areas (weather dependent). Dress for the weather and the terrain-hats, boots and gloves. Avoid wearing outerwear made of polyester or polyester fleece-heavy cotton, wool and denim are best. Please bring a water bottle, if you can. Safety equipment and refreshments provided.
