Fitness Center Closed for Maintenance

Monday, August 4th @ Noon-Wednesday, August 6th.
Aquatics, Group Exercise, the Gymnasiums, track and Kid Fit will remain open and operate as scheduled during this time. The fitness center will reopen Thursday, August 7th at 5:15 a.m.

Spinning
Experience the varied terrain that our instructors will take you through in one of our many spin
classes offered daily.
 
Cardio | Dance | Sports
These high-energy classes are sure to bring up your heart rate and leave you in a sweat. Improve your cardio endurance through a mix of dance, step, kickboxing and circuit training. 
 
Strength | Flexibility | Balance
Improve your core, tone your muscles and increase your strength. Find those hidden muscles you never thought you had. Our instructors will help you sculpt your body as you increase your flexibility and improve your balance through exercises and stretching.
 
Mind & Body
Lengthen muscles, develop core strength and stability, enhance endurance, and improve posture…all while relaxing your mind. Allow our instructors to challenge your body with unique exercises, body movements and stretching. These classes are a great way to calm your day and fit in your workout.

Personal Training

The best and most efficient way to reach your fitness goals is to enlist a personal trainer. Let our nationally certified team of trainers develop a detailed fitness regimen specifically for you. We’ll work with you to define your own personal fitness goals and keep you motivated and focused until you achieve them!

Intro to Fitness (Ages 11-12)

This is a required course for youth ages 11-12 in order to use fitness equipment at the Recreation Center of Highland Park with or without the presense of a parent/guardian. Intro to Fitness will cover the following:

• Rules & regulations
• Complete fitness assessment
• Fill out fitness card to keep on file
• Cardio equipment
• Flexibility and stretching techniques
• Strength training machines

This program is 1 hour for 3 days. Cost is $120 for the 3 sessions.  Dates and times need to be set up with a personal trainer. For more information please contact the Fitness Department at 847.579.4050

It’s All About the Core (Ages 6-12) 

Core strengthening is important for all kids of varying skill levels and ages. Robin Page (Pediatric Physical Therapist) has developed this program of core strengthening through the use of different games and activities. Key factors addressed through the program include balance, rhythm, speed and reaction, coordination and agility, proper breathing, endurance and flexibility.

Triathlon (Adults)

Swim: Learn and practice body-positioning drills that will enable you to swim efficiently and come out of the water ready for the bike and run.

Run: Our program will take your running to the next level. Whether you are a runner or a triathlete you will be faster. We extensively incorporate running drills and conditioning exercises to promote and develop fast legs and a strong body that will support running.

Cycle: This class will focus on specific cycling skill sets needed for optimal performance in the bike leg of Sprint and International distance triathlons. These include fixed interval sets, ladders, superspins, standing sprints, tempo sets, one-leg spinning drills and recovery.

Aqua Moms (Pre/Post Natal Aqua Aerobics)

Are you looking for a safe and effective way to exercise while pregnant or after giving birth?  Join our certified pre/post natal instructor for 45 minutes in the pool where you will do light aerobics and strength training to stay in shape, avoid excess weight gain, relieve stress, build strength and stamina(very important for upcoming labor), help alleviate post-partum symptoms, reduce bachaches, improve posture, gain energy and sleep better.  The water is a great environment as it helps to take about 50% of your weight off while still being able to condition the body.  All participants must present doctor's permission at or before the first class.
