2010 BOATING SEASON

Season Launch Pass Registration

  • Registration is accepted at West Ridge Center during regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m.). Mail-in registration is accepted at: West Ridge Center, ATTN: Jim Harkness, 636 Ridge Road, Highland Park, IL 60035
  • A competed registration includes: fully completed registration form, complete payment and a copy of the U.S. Coast Guard vessel inspection check sheet.
  • Residents must include proof of residency and ownership to receive resident rates.
  • All PWC's must have a season launch pass
  • An individual may only register a maximum of three P.W.C.s.
  • Nonresidents are limited to a total of 10 P.W.C. launch passes and are handled on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Monday, March 1 at 8:30 a.m. There is no limit to the number of resident PWC launch passes.
  • Vehicle/trailer length must not exceed 45'

Residents Only
To receive resident rates for Park Avenue Boating decals, residents must bring a current 2009 Park District tax bill or utility bill for 2010 showing their correct address and a driver’s license. Call 847.579.3121.

Board-Boat Storage

  • Board boat (Sailfish/Sunfish) space is available in storage racks three tiers high. Beach cable storage is also available. (The fee does not include parking decal.) Racks for sails and other equipment are also available for an additional fee. ALL BOATS MUST HAVE APPROPRIATE STORAGE DECALS.
  • Owners who were assigned space for their board-boats in 2009 have until March 8 to apply for the same space for 2010. After that time they are considered new applicants.
  • New applicants may apply for board-boat storage beginning Monday, March 15. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with residents receiving priority.
  • Applicants for a space must sign up at West Ridge Center during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m.) or by mail. Spaces are based upon availability following the renewal dates for the previous year’s applicants. Residents must show proof of residency by producing a current 2009 Park District tax bill or a 2010 utility bill showing their current address and a valid driver’s license.

Boat Storage Launch

  • If you stored your boat at Park Avenue during the 2009 storage season, you have until March 8 to apply for your 2010 storage space. Residents must drop off the registration with proof of residency at West Ridge Center, 636 Ridge Road, Highland Park, IL. Acceptable proof of residency is a driver’s license and a 2009 Park District tax bill or utility bill for 2010 showing your correct address.
  • New applications for boat storage are accepted at West Ridge Center, 636 Ridge Road, Highland Park, IL until March 15. Residents must show proof of residency when applying for storage space.
  • A completed registration includes: fully completed registration form, complete payment and resident must include proof of residency to receive resident rates.
  • A U.S. Coast Guard vessel inspection check must be completed prior to launching your boat for all boats with motors.
  • A lottery for new storage spaces will be Tuesday, March 16 at West Ridge Center. All new resident applications are drawn first until available spaces are filled. If there are still storage spaces available after the resident lottery, a lottery is held for new nonresidents. Those people filing applications need not be present at the lottery. Any remaining spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Compound storage of boats is assigned based on length, width and weight. Any boat 18 feet long with a beam of 6 feet or less (mono-hull only) may be stored in the compound. Boats exceeding these dimensions are reviewed for placement at the discretion of the Park District. Double hull boats are stored only on the south pad. Only sailboats 18 feet or under are stored on the south pad.
  • Boat storage privileges are sold according to boat type and storage location.
  • Each season storage pass includes one storage decal, one launch decal and one vehicle/trailer parking decal. Decals must be affixed to the registered vehicle. Information on sailboat limitations is available at the Park District offices. If you have questions, call 847.579.3121.
  • Efforts are made to police the area, but loss from theft, vandalism or accident resulting during storage of any personal property on park premises is at the owner’s risk and the Park District is not held responsible.
  • All boats launching must not exceed factory setting on noise levels and must conform to all federal, state and local laws concerning noise levels. Violators are subject to suspension of launching privileges. Vehicle/trailer length must not exceed 45'.

  • One daily fee may be applied toward the purchase of a season launch pass. Turn in the daily pass card when applying for a season launch pass and the appropriate amount is subtracted from the seasonal launch fee.
  • When staff is not present, daily launch passes may be purchased at West Ridge Center, 636 Ridge Road, weekdays, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. or on-site drop box. Motorized boats must have a safety inspection and display the current U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Safety Decal to launch from Park Avenue Beach. Vehicle/trailer length must not exceed 45'.

Parking Fees
Parking regulations are enforced Apr. 1-Nov. 1. Note: Any boat owners who carry their boats on top of their cars pay only a parking fee.

Rental Information

The sound of rolling waves, chatter of gulls and refreshing breezes off the water all combine to set a perfect ambience for your celebration, birthday party, rehearsal dinner, graduation party or your corporate outing.  The newly renovated North Shore Yacht Club, located on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan, is the ideal place for memorable and scenic gatherings.


Amenities
Your rental of the Yacht Club includes use of the main hall, the fireplace lounge, observation deck, complete kitchen and beach area south of the launch ramp.  There are tables and chairs to accommodate 50 individuals (room capacity 60).  An attendant will be provided to assist you from the time you arrive till the moment you leave.

Availability
The Yacht Club is available for rental May 1 through Oct. 31 and may be reserved Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings or Saturdays beginning at 3:00 p.m.  Other times are available depending on the time of year.  Bookings are available up to 90 days in advance.

Miscellaneous Queries
Alcohol may be served but is restricted to the building and the deck area.  A special permit must be completed and an insurance policy purchased.  Swimming is not permitted.  Mooring a boat for the function is allowed only after each request is individually approved.

Refunds

Rental Refunds
A refundable cleaning/damage deposit of $100 will be charged to renters.  This deposit shall be refunded approximately two weeks after the rental if the group or individuals using the Yacht Club left the facility in an orderly state.  Additional fees will be assessed to the renter if there is any damage incurred by misuse of the facility and its property.

Refunds
Parking/launching privileges are sold as season passes and are not refundable. Rentals at the North Shore Yacht Club facility are done on a contractual basis. A 90% refund is issued if canceled more than 10 business days prior to the event.

2010 BOATING SEASON

Fishing/Boating

  • Park District decals are required to launch a boat or park a car at the Park Avenue facility.
    Access to the Park Avenue facility is limited to Park District decal users on holidays and weekends until 3:00 pm. Decals are available beginning Monday Mar. 1 at West Ridge Center.  Vehicles not displaying the appropriate decal are subject to a fine. DECAL MUST BE PERMANENTLY AFFIXED TO THE VEHICLE TO BE VALID.
  • A parking area for vehicles with attached trailers is available.
  • Vehicle/trailer length must not exceed 45'.
  • City stickers are valid Monday - Friday, weekends and holidays after 3:00 pm.

Boat Launching Season Privileges

  • All launching at Park District facilities is on a fee basis.
  • Applications for season privileges must be made in-person starting Monday, March 2 at West Ridge Center during regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m.). Mail-in registration is accepted at West Ridge Center, ATTN: Jim Harkness, 636 Ridge Road, Highland Park, IL 60035. BOAT DECALS ARE ISSUED FOR EACH LAUNCHING PRIVILEGE AND MUST BE AFFIXED TO THE BOAT.
  • A completed registration must include:
  • Fully completed registration form, complete payment and a copy of the U.S. Coast Guard vessel safety inspection sheet.
  • Residents must include proof of residency and boat ownership to receive resident rates.
  • Boats over the length of 21 feet may have difficulty launching in low water situations. Caution must be taken to prevent damage to the ramp and boat.
  • Season launch passes are sold according to boat type. Each season launch pass includes one launch decal and one trailer/vehicle parking decal.
  • All motorized boat owners must have a safety inspection and display the current U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Safety Decal. It is mandatory that these safety requirements be met before purchasing launching privileges. A completed inspection sheet must be presented when applying for decals.   • All boats launching from Park Avenue must not exceed factory setting on noise levels and must conform to all federal, state and local laws concerning noise levels. Violators are subject to suspension of launching privileges.

Personal Water Craft (P.W.C.) Launching Regulations: Jet Ski, Wave Runner, etc.

  • P.W.C. owners must purchase a season launch pass. Daily launch passes are not available.
  • Personal Flotation Devices (P.F.D.) must be worn at all times.
  • P.W.C. must be at Idle Speed only in harbor and within 300 yards of ramp/fishing area.
  • P.W.C. must have a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary safety inspection prior to registering for a pass.
  • P.W.C. may beach immediately north of the water treatment plant on weekends or at the South Beach Mon-Fri at the attendant’s discretion.
  • All P.W.C. must not exceed factory setting on noise levels.
  • No operations of P.W.C. are allowed between sunset/sunrise.
  • P.W.C. are considered boats and must adhere to all rules and regulations at the Park Avenue facility.
  • P.W.C. owners are responsible for any use of the P.W.C. Misuse is subject to disciplinary action.

Notice to Fisherman
Due to space limitations, no one person may have more than two poles and one net while fishing at the Park Avenue facility. Angle parking is available for vehicles not more than 20 feet long.

Illinois Boat Registration & Safety Act
Section 13: No person under 10 years of age may operate a motorboat. Persons at least 10 years of age and less than 12 years of age may operate a motorboat only if they are accompanied on the motorboat and under the direct control of a parent or guardian. Persons at least 12 years of age and less than 18 years of age may operate a motorboat only if they are accompanied on the motorboat and under the direct control of a parent or guardian, or such motorboat operator is in possession of a Boating Safety Certificate issued by the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Education, authorizing the holder to operate motorboats. Violations of this Section done with the knowledge of a parent or guardian shall be deemed a violation by the parent or guardian and punishable under Chapter 625, Article 11a of this Act.
