Meet Our Swim Instructors

Katie Lazzara
Recreation Supervisor of Aquatiics
Katie joined the Park District’s aquatic team last year and has really enjoyed her first year with the district! She has been teaching swim lesson and lifeguarding for 15 years. Prior to joining our team she managed the Village of Lincolnwood’s aquatic center and oversaw the swim school program for many years. She is very invested in the continued development of our swim program and enjoys the opportunity to continue to teach lessons and get to know all of the swimmers and their families. Her door is always opened and welcomes any and all feedback.
Cindy Coleman
Swim Instructor
Hello! My name is Cindy Coleman. I've been teaching swim lessons for almost 10 years and I have been around water for as long as I can remember. I love working with kids of all ages, and I always have fun. I am excited to be on this team!
Tim Johnson
Swim Instructor
I teach group swimming classes because I enjoy motivating people. I enjoy helping participants define their limits and then strive to push past them. Being healthy and fit is a choice. My goal is to motivate class participants to work hard, become comfortable with being uncomfortable, and have fun!!
Sarah Doherty
Swim Instructor
Sarah is an avid swimmer, having competed in the sport for over 10 years. She loves helping people to feel more confident and achieve their goals in the pool and sees swimming as both an important life skill and a fantastic way to stay in shape at any age! At the Rec Center Sarah provides swim instruction to people of all ages and ability levels, beginners through competitive swimmers. She teaches group classes and does private lessons.
Katherine Stetkevych
Swim Instructor
I am 22 years old and a native of Highland Park. I recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I majored in Integrative Biology with a minor in Spanish. I am bilingual in English and Spanish. This is my first year teaching swim lessons, though I have been working with kids since I was a teenager as a camp counselor. I love working with kids and I love being in the pool and swimming, so I find being a swim instructor very fulfilling. I plan on attending medical school in the future, and next semester I will be getting my EMT certification. course at Oakton Community College.
Patricia Kurasiewicz
Swim Instructor
I’m Patricia and I’ve been a swim instructor for almost seven years. I teach all age ranges and my favorite stroke is breast stroke. I have been swimming since I was a baby and swam competitively for many years. Outside of the pool, I love to sing, dance, play softball, flag football, racquet ball, basketball, tennis, and speed skating. I also coach a junior swim team at the Bernard Weinger JCC.
