Fitness Coordinator

Under the direction of the Manager of Fitness, the Fitness Coordinator supports the operations related to the development and implementation of wellness programs in group exercise, pre-registered fitness classes, and any other service aimed to improve the fitness experience for the members and residents of Highland Park. The Fitness Coordinator is a team-player and inspirational leader through dynamic programming, innovation, effective communication, time management, promotion, and education aimed at establishing and maintaining relationships for long-term participation. The Fitness Coordinator contributes to the overall success of the membership goals at the Recreation Center by embodying the mission, vision, and values of the Park District of Highland Park to provide welcoming, caring, and extraordinary experiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate innovative group exercise and fitness programs aligned with member preferences and trends, ensuring quality control through feedback and surveys.
  • Develop and manage group exercise schedules, including instructor scheduling and room reservations via Rec Trac and Group Ex Pro.
  • Collaborate with the Fitness Manager and Membership Services to develop group fitness programs, promotions, and events to attract, retain, and engage members.
  • Coordinate marketing efforts with the Marketing Department, producing news releases, flyers, social media posts, and a weekly e-newsletter.
  • Monitor group exercise check-ins, troubleshoot stereo systems, and manage payroll for instructors in Paycom.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate group exercise instructors, and manage certifications and CEUs for staff.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with Recreation Center staff and members, addressing feedback and concerns.
  • Assist with onsite management as Manager on Duty, Fitness Desk Attendant, and perform registration tasks as needed.
  • Teach a minimum of four group exercise classes per week and assist with emergency procedures.
  • Maintain workspace organization, equipment recommendations, and safety standards.
  • Perform other Park District-related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $18.50 – $21.25 Hourly
