To combat the rise in COVID-19 cases, the City of Highland Park implemented a Supplemental Order requiring all indoor fitness facilities to close.  The order became effective on Tuesday, November 17, at 11:59 pm.  In compliance, the Recreation Center of Highland Park indoor fitness (including the fitness floor, personal training, indoor group fitness classes) and aquatics are closed until further notice.

What About My Membership During the Closure?

All Recreation Center memberships (annual, 30-Day, 60-Day, 90-Day memberships) are frozen, and all billing is on hold as of Wednesday, November 18.

When operations resume, memberships will be reactivated, and the total number of days closed will be added to the end of all memberships.  The Rec Center will credit accounts for any unused daily fees paid before the closure.

Outdoor Fitness Classes

The Recreation Center of Highland Park is disheartened by the mandated closure. Still, we are committed to your ongoing health and safety and understand that fitness and exercise are essential to everyone’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.  To ensure you have access to our services, we are quickly transitioning our indoor group fitness classes to our outdoor tent and various areas outside the Recreation Center.

As we transition to “outdoor only” classes in compliance with the City Order, starting Monday, November 23 and for a limited time, all outdoor classes will be available for FREE until further notice.

Class reservations are required.  Rec Center members may make class reservations up to 3 days in advance.  Resident/non-resident non-members may sign up for classes no earlier than 24 hours before the class scheduled time. The capacity for each class is limited to 10 participants.

As a reminder, face coverings are now required at all times, even while exercising outdoors.

For a complete list of classes and to reserve time starting Monday, November 23, click here.

More Fitness Opportunities Coming Soon!

In the coming days, the Recreation Center is introducing an exciting new virtual group fitness platform.  The platform will provide a complete library of on-demand fitness videos and streaming classes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 847-579-4554.

We appreciate your flexibility and patience during these trying and unprecedented times and hope you and your family remain safe and healthy.

Nowadays, we are all conscious of staying healthy and only being in clean, safe environments. At the Recreation Center of Highland Park, we are using two new state-of-the-art air filtration systems in our facility, and our staff is following strict, consistent sanitation protocols to ensure you are working out and keeping fit and healthy in the safest environment you can be.

Clean Air

In July, an AirPHX System was installed on both levels of the Rec Center and a new UV Air Filter was installed on the Center’s HVAC system.   AirPhx safely and continuously kills microbes in the air, and everything the air touches 24 hours a day. Because it requires no chemicals or liquid additives, the AirPHX process is organic and safe.  The UV Air Filter, unlike chemical disinfectants,  provides rapid, effective inactivation of microorganisms.  The system provides continuous disinfection of the air, lowering the concentration of mold, bacteria, and viruses.

Safety & Sanitation Protocols

Following the state’s Phase 4 safety guidelines, we are committed to the health and safety of everyone who visits.  You will still see the same friendly faces you were used to, but some things will look different.  Watch our video for a quick overview.

  • Throughout our facility, you will find social distancing markers and an increased number of sanitation stations for your hands and for the equipment.
  • All members are required to wipe down the equipment before and after  use with gym wipes located conveniently throughout the facility.
  • Staff members  actively monitor, and clean equipment using an EPA registered and hospital-grade disinfectant. All staff members are required to wear masks while on duty.

Cardio Equipment

You will notice that we have moved some of the cardio equipment to the gym floor to allow for physical distancing.

Personal Training

We have created one-on-one personal training studios for our trainers and their clients for increased physical distancing and privacy.  To schedule a personal training session, contact jditomasso@pdhp.org.

Working Together

Remember, the biggest thing you can do to contribute to keeping the Recreation Center the safest place for everyone to be outside of their own homes is to stay home if you are sick, have been exposed or are vulnerable due to age, compromised immunity or pre-existing condition.

Additionally, while at the Recreation Center of Highland Park:

  • Participants must always maintain proper social distancing of 6 ft. while exercising
  • Face coverings are required at all times, even when exercising.
  • Participants may not congregate with others unless you are from the same household
  • Participants must use hand sanitizer or wash their hands after entering the Rec Center and before using equipment
  • Come to the facility dressed and ready to exercise. Changing rooms and lockers will not be available.
  • To maintain proper social distancing, participants are required to enter the Rec Center one person at a time while keeping at least six feet of distance between you and the person in front of you.
  • Participants must wear a face-covering at all times, even when exercising.  For more information on wearing a face mask while exercising, click here.
  • Participants may enter the facility no sooner than their reserved time.
  • Participants must check in with the main desk in the lobby before entering the fitness areas and show a valid ID at check-in at the time of reservation.
  • While checking in, participants should make sure to use complimentary hand sanitizer .

We can be safe if we are all working together. We look forward to seeing you soon and being an important part of your fitness routine.

The Recreation Center of Highland Park hours, safety guidelines, and rules are subject to change based on the most current information surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and guidance received from the CDC, LCHD and DCEO. We appreciate your cooperation and value your safety.

Please note: The Recreation Center of Highland Park has put a hold on all memberships. New memberships are not being accepted at this time.
