Introduction to Basketball

Parent Tot Basketball- Ages 3-5

An exciting introduction to the game with age appropriate instruction and game play to develop your young player’s abilities. Park District staff is hands on to assist parents and players with fun drills and games.

Little Dribblers- Boys and Girls Pre-K-K

Designed to introduce the sport of basketball and develop motor skills and eye-hand coordination through fun drills and games. Participants learn the fundamentals of passing, shooting, and dribbling.

 

Leagues

All Star League-Boys Grades 1-2 

Players develop their game and confidence through a combination of weekly skills and league play. Game provide a true All-Star experience with team uniforms, awards, and team party. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as coaches. One night of week is dedicated to practice and teams play games on Saturdays.

NCAA-Boys Grades 3-4

This league focuses on developing players skills through drills and game play. Players learn teamwork, ball-handling, and rules of the game. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as coaches. One night of week is dedicated to practice and teams play games on Saturdays. The leagues concludes with an end of season tournament.

NCAA Girls Grades 1-3
This league focuses on developing players skills through drills and game play. Players learn teamwork, ball-handling, and rules of the game. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as coaches. One night of week is dedicated to practice and teams play games on Saturdays. The leagues concludes with an end of season tournament.

Travel House-Boys Grades 5-6
Players continue to build skills, game knowledge, and teamwork. The first few meeting are a preseason clinic then teams are formed. Games are against teams from Highland Park as well as Glencoe, Deerfield, and Lake Forest. One night of week is dedicated to practice and teams play games on Saturdays. Advanced

Travel Basketball-Boys Grades 3-5

Teams compete in the North Suburban Basketbal League and in events throughout the Chicagoland area. All teams play in the end of season NSBL tournament. Independent evaluators will conduct the tryout process and select the teams at each level. Teams start practicing in November, games begin in December and the season runs through early March.

Boys Feeder Basketball Grades 6-8

Players are introduced to the Highland Park Basketball system. Feeder coaches teach the same offensive and defensive principles as the high school staff. Games are scheduled with other feeder programs from nearby communities. The HP Feeder Basketball program allows all players to participate and is a great starter program for future high school players. Teams start practicing in December and the season runs January through March.

Girls Feeder Basketball Grades 5-8

Teams compete in the Northern Illinois Girls Feeder Basketball Association as well as in tournaments throughout the area. All teams play in the end of season NIGFBA tournament. Teams start practicing in November and the season runs January through March.

Clinics

Preseason Clinics-Boys and Girls Grades 1st-6th

These clinics prepare players for the upcoming basketball season. An opportunity to develop skills and get in some game play through scrimmages.
