Rosewood Park’s playground is scheduled for replacement in Fall 2025.

In preparation, the Park District of Highland Park began the planning process for Rosewood’s 2025 update over the Summer of 2024. The playground design process was collaborative. Community feedback collected throughout the design process guided the playground design.

Project Details:

  • new and separated tot lot and elementary play areas
  • path improvements (path connecting parking lot to playground)
  • site furniture replacement
  • new gathering area within the playground

Crews wrapped up work on resetting portions of the brick path.


Additional progress was made on playground equipment installation as well.

The porous-pave path to the playground has been installed.

More progress has been made installing the perimeter stone.


Installation of the tot lot play equipment has started.

This week, crews were working on site drainage, grading, and preparation work for the new path.


Installation of the playground perimeter curb and stonework began.

This week crews framed the perimeter of the playground area and started framing the seating area to prepare for concrete installation.


The playground equipment was also delivered to the site this week.


Next Up: Crews will finish the framing to pour concrete and will begin installing the playground equipment.

The contractors have completed the brick paver removal from the playground to the parking lot.


Crews are now working on preparing the layout and forms for the new concrete in the playground area.

Demolition of the playground equipment has concluded. Crews are on site beginning the prep-work to lay out the new playground.

Construction has Started!

The construction fence has gone up, and demolition work is underway.


The playground area is now closed until the project is complete.

Construction Timeline Update!

Construction is now expected to begin in October. The Park District is working with the contractor on an updated start date, and as a result the playground will be closed for construction for a shorter period of time.

Once an updated start date is received, this page will be updated.

Construction Starting Soon!

Construction is expected to begin the week of September 15.

Once the construction fence goes up, the playground will be closed.

The Results Are In!

Thank you to everyone who provided playground equipment feedback at the open house and through the online survey.

The Park District heard from more than 50 people who selected their preferred playground equipment.

The Results Are In!

Thank you to everyone who provided playground equipment feedback through the online survey and visits to the park. Through this effort, the Park District heard from more than 20 people at the park and 46 survey respondents.

Your feedback will be used to refine the playground design options. In September, the refined options will be shared, and the community will have the opportunity to select their favorite playground design.

Summer Community Engagement Opportunities at Rosewood Park

The Planning and Projects team was at Rosewood Park on the following dates to share playground equipment options and collect feedback:

• Wednesday, July 24 from 9-11am
• Monday, July 29 from 3-5pm
• Tuesday, July 30 from 5-7pm
• Wednesday, Aug 7 from 9:30-10:30am
• Monday, Aug 12 from 4-5pm

Thank you to everyone who visited the park to share your feedback on the playground equipment! Your feedback will be used to refine the playground design options.
