Formally known as Grange Park for the adjacent street, today’s Leonardi Park was donated to the Park District by Mr. and Mrs. Leonardi in 1972 and was renamed in their honor.

The railroad embankment created the peculiar wetland that exists on the property. Leonardi has some unusual plant species and stone remnants, which suggest that the area was once a part of an estate garden.
