Prohibited Items
- Boogie boards, rafts, noodles, kickboards and/or inflatable flotation devices
- Dogs or pets, except service dogs, are permitted on the beach. Pets, including emotional support animals, are not permitted.
- Alcoholic beverages – A person under the influence or exhibiting erratic behavior shall not be permitted in the beach area
- Glass containers
- Smoking, vaping and/or cannabis are not allowed on the premises
- Open fires, grills or anything with a heat source is not allowed
- Bikes, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades/skates, and/or Segways are prohibited on the boardwalk
- Firearms, weapons, drones, fireworks and/or sky lanterns are strictly prohibited
- Camp tents or large obstructions are not allowed on the beach.
Swimming
- No swimming in the Nature Cove, which is the 1st cove adjacent to the resident parking lot
- Swimming and wading are only allowed in coves 2 and 3 within the buoyed swim area
- Life jackets are allowed, but they need to be labeled US Coast Guard approved
- An adult must properly supervise children
- Children under 11 years of age must be accompanied by an adult (18 years or older)
- Swimming is only permitted when lifeguards are on duty
- Swimming may be restricted or prohibited due to weather or safety conditions.
- Specific areas on the sand or water, may be reserved for Internal or External Recreation Programs
Health
In accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health, admission to the beach shall be refused to all persons having any contagious disease, infectious conditions such as colds, fever, ringworm, foot infections, skin lesions, carbuncles, boils, diarrhea, vomiting, inflamed eyes, ear discharges, or any other condition that has the appearance of being infectious. Persons with excessive sunburn, abrasions that have not healed, corn plasters, bunion pads, adhesive tape, rubber bandages or other bandages of any kind shall also be refused admittance because of the potential for transmittable disease.
The lake water is not suitable for drinking. Patrons should avoid swallowing lake water.
Spitting, spouting water, blowing your nose, and/or introducing contaminants into the beach water are not permitted.
All children who are not potty trained shall wear tightly fitting disposable swim diapers.
Feeding wildlife or other actions that encourage their presence is prohibited.
