In 1964 Highmoor Park was acquired by the Park District of Highland Park with the support of Federal grants and the Park was named after the neighborhood in which the park is located.  In 1991, the passive park was formally dedicated as a nature preserve as provided for in the Illinois Nature Areas Preservation Act. Since 1991, the Park District has received support to continue to benefit the property.
